FROM THE CHAIRMAN... |

What a season (and it is not over yet!). Congratulations to both our Men's and Ladies Teams gaining promotion. Our Men's team were magnificent throughout the summer clinching the title by a mere 6 points (3 sets). No one will forget the final match against closest rivals Paddington Rec I, when we secured those vital points. The standard of tennis was far higher than normally found in Division 9. I predict that Acorn and Paddington will be fighting for promotion next from Division 8. The fantastic squad of 12 who have all been given medals to celebrate the victory. Captain Greg Ostroff, Steve Quaynor coach (non playing), Barry Barnett, Haim Benzaken, Steve Byrne, George Cristea, Ravi Gupta, Ketan Makwana, Steve Melzack, Neil Phillips, Jeff Rubinstein, Petro Stoian. Despite the difficulty of regularly getting out a full team our ladies team did very well to gain promotion in second place. The winner of Division 6 was Paddington Rec who fielded one or two coaches in their team. The ladies will have to be on their mettle if they are to be competitive next year. Any support for strengthening our ladies team next year will be appreciated. Have you seen our refurbished club house? Wooden flooring, new kitchen, hot water etc. I hope you agree that it has been more than worthwhile to raid the club's coffers. We will soon know if our aspirations to have flood lights will be possible and we have to embark on some serious fund raising. We soon have our super finals weekend on the 17th and 18th September, when our best seniors, junior and vets players will be competing for honours. The Men's, singles, doubles and the mixed doubles look the most competitive for years, as the semi finals are currently being fought out. To all our injured players I look forward to seeing you back on court soon. Best wishes. Steve |
