Text Box: FROM THE CHAIRMAN...

The new season has started in the worst possible way when one of our lady players suffered a horrendous injury of a broken femur warming up at Uxbridge LTC.  Two  and a half hours for an ambulance to arrive is just not acceptable.

Serious injuries on tennis courts are not common but I have reported the incident to Middlesex LTA and suggested that clubs have a Plan B if we cannot rely on the 999 service.

On the good news front we have run a successful American tournament which saw all our first team players mix in.

Our new Men’s II team showed that they are not in Division 9 to make up the numbers with a 14-10 win over Kenton.

Geoff has a real selection problem with many experienced players and talented youngsters fighting for places.

As I write these notes our Men’s first team are set to commence their league campaign on Thursday (10th May) at home playing Hatch End (if the rain stops).

The club tournament draw will soon be announced and the singles ladder continues to be popular.

Dates for your diary - Midsummer day Sunday 24th June 2012 when we hold our charity handicap doubles tournament and barbeque.  Watch out for the entry form in the club house.  We have some great raffle prizes.

Our charities this year are Cancer Research and the International Glaucoma Association.

As you can appreciate I write this report on a "down" mood - I have been brought down to earth - there is more to tennis than winning - having fun and staying healthy is the priority.

Finally I was flattered to learn that other clubs are impressed by our website - well done Ray!

STOP PRESS

Our Men's team made the perfect start to their division 7 campaign with a 24-0 win over Hatch End V.

However, the team knows that it will not be easy to repeat their league winning performance of last year with clubs like Paddington Rec and Harrow Leisure around.

Also a lot will depend on the players available for these early 6.30 starts, especially for long away matches.

Well done to the team for a great start.

We will shortly be doing the draw for the club tournaments so look out on the noticeboard for your opponents.   The entry form for the charity doubles tournament is now up.  Don't forget friends and family are very welcome even if they just come to eat.
