Well the new season has truly started – Acorn Lawn Tennis Club must have one of the best settings in the County adjoining the picturesque Canons Park.

Although we have sadly lost a few members through illness/injury we are delighted that we have some new members who have joined us – welcome to Acorn!

Social play continues to thrive as members of all standards enjoy their tennis.  Daniel must be commended for introducing the singles ladder, to encourage single play outside the normal social hours.  

The draws for the club championships are now up in the club house and have thrown up some interesting matches.  Members are urged to play their matches in time. The Wimbledon umpires will be on duty on the Men’s Final Day, Sunday 8th September.

The early season American Tournament was very well supported and successful.  Our next big event is our annual charity handicap doubles tournament and barbeque on Sunday 23rd June. This year we will be supporting The Royal Brompton Hospital and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.  Please sign up as soon as possible for play and eat (£15) or eat only (£10) so we know numbers, etc.

The reasons for these two great causes is that Derek’s wife received wonderful care at the Royal Brompton Hospital  and I am delighted to say will be at the bar b q. Secondly, a dear old friend from my previous club, Wembley, known to some other ( ex Wembley)  Acorn Members is suffering with Motor Neurone Disease.  Some members from Wembley who know Jack will be joining us on the big day.

Karen’s junior coaching courses are very popular and is now running adult improvers and beginners courses.

Our teams have started the season well.  Our Men’s I team  won their first Middlesex league match in Division 6 20-4 away to Harrow. In the National League following a very narrow defeat to The Elms we beat Hackney 5-1. As I write these notes Men’s II have yet to play.

The ladies made a great start with a 13-11 win over Headstone.

Looking forward to seeing you all on court soon wearing our new Acorn clothing.
